France ring the changes

Wed 24 Jun, 09:26 AM

France coach Marc Lievremont has made seven changes to his starting side ahead of Saturday's one-off Test against the Wallabies in Sydney.

Two of the four changes to the forward pack are forced, with lock Sebastien 'Cave Man' Chabal (calf) and in-form number eight Louis Picamoles (neck), both returning to France with injuries sustained in the narrow loss to the All Blacks in Wellington last weekend.

They are replaced in the run-on side by Pascal Pape and Julien Puricelli, while tighthead prop Sylvain Marconnet and hooker Dimitri Szarzewski have both been promoted off the bench.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is out wide where only Cedric Heymans will line-up in the same position (left wing) for the second consecutive week.

Dimitri Yachvili and Lionel Beauxis form an all new halves combination at the expense of Julien Dupuy and rising star Francois Trinh-Duc.

Outside-centre Florian Fritz is the other new face in the side with Maxime Mermoz shifting to inside-centre and veteran Damien Traille to start at full-back.

Maxime Medard, who scored a crucial intercept try to help Les Bleus to a 27-22 victory over the All Blacks in Dunedin, shifts to the wing at the expense of Vincent Clerc.

France team: Damien Traille, Maxime Medard, Florian Fritz, Maxime Mermoz, Cedric Heymans, Lionel Beauxis, Dimitri Yachvili, Julien Puricelli, Fulgence Ouedraogo, Thierry Dusautoir, Romain Millo-Chluski, Pascal Pape, Sylvain Marconnet, Dimitri Szarzewski, Fabien Barcella.
