Irvine: We have desire

Wed 24 Jun, 11:50 AM

Preston boss Alan Irvine insists hard work will again hold the key to his side's Championship promotion hopes this season.

North End have not been in the top flight since 1961 but they defied the odds to reach the play-offs last term.

A 2-1 aggregate semi-final defeat to Sheffield United condemned them to another year in the second tier of English football but Irvine's men will lack nothing in desire over the coming months.

"There is a real desire and willingness to work hard at this club," said Irvine.

"There are no cliques, no little groups who don't get on with other groups and they're a terrific bunch of lads.

"The team is definitely greater than the individual here and long may it continue."
