Newcastle old boy Malcolm Macdonald fears things could get worse for the club before they get better.
The Magpies plummeted out of the Premier League at the end of last season in turmoil on and off the pitch, and the ongoing uncertainty with owner Mike Ashley looking for a buyer has not improved the situation.
Macdonald knows from bitter personal experience how destructive that could be, and is hoping for a swift resolution so planning for a new start can begin.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "When a football club, like Newcastle right now, has no direction from the top or in the dressing room, it can only go one way: down.
"When you hit such lows as Newcastle have, on and off the pitch these last few months, the one thing guaranteed to follow if you don't put things right after relegation is another relegation.
"If people are thinking Newcastle are automatically just going to bounce back, they will be massively disappointed. Things must be changed at the club. Why are things not being changed?"

I've got a job, thank you very much (one of the lucky one's given the way the bankers have managed to mess up the whole economy), I'm a fully employed Chartered Accountant (yes, Cameron, that's why I kept banging on about due diligence so much and its also where I get my inside info from - not everyone who works for or on behalf of NUFC is a fan!).

The greatest bit of business that NUFC ever did was selling "Doddgy Kness" to the gooners for £333,333 back in 78! One season later "Ball greedy Mac" was history! The General Lee saw straight through him, his two pathetic efforts at Wembley in 74 and 76 made Ameobi look like Pele! Has done nothing but take swipes at Legends such as "The Multi Nulty", "Brucie Gowling" and "The Kaiser Keely" while also making stupid remarks about Millner, saying that he cant cross! Well "Mac", we also remember how you could not pass or take a decent free kick! His all time "Whooper was when he told the Scousers that he would "put them to the sword" and had one halfway shot against them!
