Scunthorpe youngsters Joe Wilcox and Peter Winn have been told to take their chance and secure first-team berths this season.Despite being regular fixtures in the Iron's reserve team for the last couple of years, outings in the senior side have been few and far between for the promising teenagers.

Although both players impressed during Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to Rotherham, Adkins is desperate for the duo to finally make the step up as he plots a return to the Championship.

"We've only got a very, very small first-team squad and it's important all players can play a part," Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"We've tried to bring them through the youth system and develop them and now it's a case of 'right, well come on then, if called upon, can you play two, three, four or 10 games?

"It's games like the Rotherham one where we find out whether they can or they can't."
