Scholes preparing for United exit

Thu 24 Jul, 10:00 AM

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has admitted he does not expect to spend more than another two seasons at the club. The 33-year-old has spent his entire career at Old Trafford and been at the heart of most of United's success under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Scholes said: "How long will I go on? I'd think two years at the most.

"I have one year left on my contract and hopefully I'll get another one but I suppose it all depends on how you're feeling and how you're playing.

"At the moment I just think two years would be about right."

Scholes has not ruled out moving to a club at a lower level to prolong his career or later becoming a coach, but he admits he will not miss the spotlight that comes with playing at the top level.

He added: "I can't say that I can't wait to finish but I am looking forward to finishing with everything that goes with it.

"I suppose people are just very invasive and are always wanting to know what you're going to do.

"The only thing I will definitely miss is the football, not the general life of a footballer."

  3. one of the best midfielders and most under-rated as well. His departure will leave a big hole at center field. Carrick and Hargreaves has barely half his precision and talent. Man U will need a good centerfielder soon.

  7. This is a story worthy of more print space than that of Ronaldo and the other greedy and selfish footballers. Unfortunately, Most footballers are. Although Im an Arsenal fan, but as a true football lover, it is difficult not to salute the footballer and gentleman called Paul Scholes. One of the most underrated footballer who would have probably got more rave reviews had he been brash and arrogant. He has an exquisite touch and a wonderful football brain that would not look out of place in a South American National side(such as Brazil and Argentina). He is also a true role-model and shows that you can be a good footballer without being conceited, arrogant and a Prat. Im sure all true football lovers will join me in wishing him the best in whatever he decides to do.

  8. been all the talk about how to work gerrard and lampard together in the england team....balls to that, the ginger prince should still be gracing the international stage, i know he retired himself but sure that sven never helped by playin our finest central midfielder out on the left wing, if he was any other nationality apart from english he probably wudv gained 100+caps, pure class!!!

  9. Paul Scholes shows how a true professional player should be in both his playing ability and loyalty to his club. He could have gone on to play for any club in the world, but he chose to stay and play for the club that brought the best out of him. When he retired from international football it showed what a player he was like a that level because they have`nt for a replacement for him as of yet. So Paul you keep playing on and good luck to you. G .....

  11. Paul is a legend, and this is coming from an everton fan! He has shown that you can be one of the top players in the world without the need to pimp yourself out to the worlds press and pap. He is the type of player that would play for nothing just for the love of the game, sadly these type of players are becoming a thing of the past.
