Krumah Set To Join Portsmouth

Thu 24 Jul, 05:09 PM

Omar Krumah has impressed Harry Redknapp sufficiently to earn a permanent contract with Portsmouth.

The Gambian teenager, known as 'OJ', has spent the last fortnight training with the Premier League side.

A number of eye-catching performances in recent pre-season friendlies persuaded Pompey to take a gamble on the youngster, and he is now set to be offered a deal by the club.

However, he is unlikely to play in the Premier League next season, with Redknapp preferring to nurture the 18-year-old into a star of the future.

"OJ has done well, he's only 18 and I think he's a real prospect," the Pompey boss told The News.

"We're hoping to now get something done and keep him here permanently because I like him.

"He was at Southampton last year, they wanted him but could not get a work permit but he's married now so that's no longer a problem.

"The lad was recommended to me so we had him over for the last couple of weeks and he's been tremendous.

"He's quick and has got a lot of everything.

"The kid wants to do well, he's willing to learn and hopefully he can do well here.

"I have already had half a dozen clubs wanting to play him this season, most of them are from the Championship.

"He's not ready for the Premier League but he's still young so his time can come."

  3. Pompey have been one of the best run clubs for a few years. Such clever, canny signings. They are the only club who are doing things a little differently. Using their imagination. It's the simple common sense approach. This is the type of approach which is allowing them to compete on such an even footing with the big guns. I hope this continues with their UEFA cup strategy. Pompey are a lesson to all. Totally refreshing and old school. Everyone is watching Pompey just to see what they will come up with next.

  4. What the hell are you talking about chima? Redknapp's made 1 big signing and then been told he has to sell before he can buy again. Pompey are being pretty sensible at the moment and keeping the books balanced. Check your facts.

Re: Kanu. The man is paid to score goals and is no more deserving of special treatment than any of the other players who won the cup. Get them rose tinted specs off Luxy.

  6. Redknapp, ensure you offer Kanu Nwankwo a two-year contract extension, and even extend it when it expires. He has done well - broken the club's jinx by winning the FA. That is enough to pay him back by offering him the 2-year contract extension he craves.
