Kuyt Issues Torres Warning

Thu 24 Jul, 09:09 AM

Dirk Kuyt has warned Premier League defences Liverpool team-mate Fernando Torres will be even better this season.

Torres enjoyed a sensational debut campaign in England following his move from Atletico Madrid last summer, netting 33 goals in all competitions.

The 24-year-old also enjoyed a successful Euro 2008 with Spain, scoring the winner in the final against Germany.

And Kuyt has backed Torres to better his goalscoring record from last season.

The Dutchman told The Sun: "I think he can be even better this season.

"He is only 24 and can only get better and better.

"Fernando already knows how difficult the Premier League can be - but he did really well last year.

"The only thing he has to be careful about is that people know him now.

"But for a player with his qualities, he is always going to be difficult to play against.

"He knows that and the defenders know that as well - and they will be afraid of him. If he stays fit he can do even better than last season."

  3. Luxy - that's rich coming from a supporter of a team that haven't won anything in 3 years. I'd say you're still living on those 2 cup victories over Liverpool in 2006/07.

  5. Perhaps Benitez was saving him for Spain's European Championship campaign?

  6. well that was all stating the bleedin' obvious wasn't it? Liverpool's season last year can be summed up by the number of draws, rather than the number of losses. They didn't really lose any more games than the other top 3 teams. Why Benitez didn't play him at every opportunity is total mystery to me. The club's being run by a manager who'd sooner not lose than win (if that makes sense). Since Benitez took over, Liverpools season has been lost in the first 10 games of every season. It's about then that he gives up on his rotation nonsense.

  7. Well duh, of course he can do better, he missed loads of games through injury and Benitez not playing him for some VERY strange reason.
