River Claim Pizarro Offer

Thu 24 Jul, 06:09 PM

River Plate president Jose Maria Aguilar has revealed the club were offered Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro.

Aguilar claims the 29-year-old Peru striker's agent approached the club ahead of the start of the Apertura, which gets under way next month.

However, Aguilar said the club were unable to afford the former Bayern Munich man's contract so could not follow up on the offer.

He told reporters: "We have had an informal chat only. We are offered a hundred players.

"Pizarro is a first-class footballer who plays at one of the most powerful, most important clubs in the world.

"Right now, there is no real chance (to sign Pizarro)."

Argentinian champions River start their Apertura campaign on August 10 when they travel to Colon.
