Paul Robinson's potential move from Tottenham to Blackburn could clear the path for England winger David Bentley to move in the other direction ahead of the new Premier League season.
Paul Ince is understood to have lodged a bid for Spurs' out-of-favour goalkeeper, who suffered a dip in form last season, and Rovers are prepared to let Brad Friedel join Aston Villa if a deal is struck.
Spurs have been interested in Bentley and the 23-year-old has been tipped to move from Ewood Park this summer but so far the two clubs have not announced a fee being agreed.
Both possible transfers have been treated separately rather than as part-exchanges but Robinson moving north would be interpreted as a positive sign of a deal being finalised for Bentley, who is valued by his club at around £18million.
Spurs head coach Juande Ramos has already sold Teemu Tainio to Sunderland and accepted bids from the same club for Pascal Chimbonda, Younes Kaboul and Steed Malbranque.
Anthony Gardner looks set to join top-flight newcomers Hull, while strikers Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane want to leave White Hart Lane.
Losing their main two attackers has led to contact being made with Zenit St Petersburg over Andrei Arshavin and they are also aware of David Villa's availability at Valencia.

supernovam13 - I would wait until the start of the season and then see what kind of team Spurs have. This is the manager wanting to build HIS team and from what I've seen so far the players he has either already sold or has told that they can go is basically the deadwood at the club anyway, eg, Tainio, Chimbonda, Kaboul, Gardener, etc.
And he is certainly replacing the ones going out the door with better quality players. Dos Santos & Modric already signed, Bentley looking like he's on the way,and up front no one is denying what a class player Berbatov is but if he follows Keane out the door, as is looking likely, and Ramos succeeds in getting Villa & Arshavin in as replacements then you have what could argueably be an even better partnership.
You also have to remember that you will also get the best out of the players the manager signed when he joined now that they have had 6 months to settle into the club.
As I am a Rangers fan I know what a fantastic player Alan Hutton is and I know for sure that you will also see that this season.
All in all I think you are going to have a team that is twice as good as the one you had last season and I predict good things to come from Spurs.
supernova, i am a regular at white hart lane and although chimbonda and malbranque have done ok, i believe them to be mid table players. To challenge the big four we need more quality in more areas. I would question Jenas and Huddlestone too, although both deserve another season perhaps to prove themselves. However, losing both Keane and berba would be a massive setback. They have been, arguably, the best strike partnership for the last two years in the prem, i would like to see both Ramos and Levy doing everything in their power to keep them at the lane. We have been heavy with midfielders for a little while now so am not too concerned to see them leaving, Would like to see some more defensive purchases as this is always our troublesome area, especially some cover for young Bale
Gawd! Will the last player to leave Tottenham please turn out the lights? I would have thought with Dos Santos and Modric on board exciting things may materialize?
But it now seems they will have no one left to play with (apart from Huddlestone and Jenas)
Come on Spurs Taino, I can expect a move away from him, and out of favour Kaboul but Malbranque and Chimbonda are a HUGE loss but if Berby and Keane both leave the Lane then Spurs WILL once more be flirting with relegation or at best mid table mediocrity once AGAIN!!!!
