Scholes Starts United Exit Countdown

Thu 24 Jul, 08:09 AM

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has admitted he does not expect to spend more than another two seasons at the club.

The 33-year-old has spent his entire career at Old Trafford and been at the heart of most of United's success under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Scholes said: "How long will I go on? I'd think two years at the most.

"I have one year left on my contract and hopefully I'll get another one but I suppose it all depends on how you're feeling and how you're playing.

"At the moment I just think two years would be about right."

Scholes has not ruled out moving to a club at a lower level to prolong his career or later becoming a coach, but he admits he will not miss the spotlight that comes with playing at the top level.

He added: "I can't say that I can't wait to finish but I am looking forward to finishing with everything that goes with it.

"I suppose people are just very invasive and are always wanting to know what you're going to do.

"The only thing I will definitely miss is the football, not the general life of a footballer."

  4. Scholes is a legend not just with United but in football,All the great players past and present have said what a great player he is and I for one will enjoy his last season or two at Old Trafford and I hope he then goes to his home town club Oldham and play for them for at least 1 season as this has allways been his dream.Ronaldo take note about what a true legend is and how you become a legend with your fans.

I have never seen Scholes hogg the limelight and I have never seen a paper run a story about his off field antics because he dosen't need to seek that kind od attention.A great footballer and a great club and family man and I wish him all the best in whatever he does in or out of football.

From ianjansingh, on Thu 24 Jul 9:42AM
  20. When the midfield genius hangs up his boots for good all of Utd will know what all of England felt when he hung up his international boots. One big difference though, England have never been able to replace him (Lampard and Gerrard - you must be joking!!) whereas Sir Alex has set in motion a programme that will allow Paul's inevitable retirement with the least disruption to the team as is possible
