Championship leader Lewis Hamilton has expressed confidence Formula One can stay ahead of the sweeping rule changes set to come into force in 2009.
Teams are currently working hard in preparation for next year, when a drastic reduction in aerodynamic downforce poses a threat to the sort of lap times currently being set.
The return of slick tyres and a new 'boost' button in the form of energy-recovery KERS should help the drivers to claw back the lost speed.
"GP2 is getting faster and Formula One will have to stay faster," the McLaren driver said.
"Every time new rules and regulations are brought in, teams only get faster."
Hamilton added that he does not believe successful teams such as McLaren and Ferrari have an unfair advantage over their rivals.
"Formula One has been this way for many years," he continued. "All the teams, when qualifying, are within one second of one another.
"It is not about who has more money, but who spends it better."
Hamilton leads the drivers' championship with 58 points from Ferrari duo Felipe Massa (54) and Kimi Raikkonen (51).

Speeds may be getting faster, but F1 is still dying a slow death. If something is not done to dramaticly lower costs, the smaller teams (no matter how much money they may have), and the all important sponsers will fade away, and the new multi-billion dollar tracks will be just a memory.
WHo is Lewis kidding when his hero's were racing you would be lucky if 2 seconds covered the first two rows, I will agree that the time covering the grid has been getting smaller but grids have very rarely if ever been within a single second :-) That does not even happen in NASCAR on the half mile track in Bristol :-)
