Adebayor blames fans for departure

Fri 24 Jul, 04:16 PM

New Manchester City recruit Emmanuel Adebayor has blamed his decision to leave Arsenal on his poor relationship with the club's fans.

The Togo international was booed by sections of the Gunners faithful last term after a summer which saw him strongly linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium, before he confirmed their suspicions by leaving for Manchester City for £25million this summer.

"The way the fans behaved towards me was not nice at all. I can't understand why they were after me. I did my best for them and I was very happy there," said Adebayor.

"I scored 30 goals in a season - it's not my fault that Milan, Barcelona or Real Madrid wanted to sign me.

"In any summer, Barcelona try to sign Cesc Fabregas. But the fans never turned on him."

Adebayor's arrival at Eastlands, along with fellow strikers Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tevez, has already seen Felipe Caicedo leave the club on a year-long loan to Sporting Lisbon and reports suggest Bulgaria forward Valeri Bojinov could be next to go.

Serie A side Lazio are thought to be leading the running.

  1. He did make two valuable points. Naturally, he was seen as an prized asset to Arsenal that could have been bought from other clubs. Was it wrong of Adebayor to seem interested? No, because he remained and still performed well. Regardles, the fans treated him as if he had terminated his Arsenal contract to join Tottenham....
You can not blame him for wanting to leave. He just felt unappreciated.

  3. The fans can't be happy with a man that changes his mind every day about leaving the club and this distubs the team morality because he is good and we need him, but the day
Klaas Hunterlaar steps in Arsenal's stadium he will make the fans forget Adebayor

  4. Well said 'thesrsenalfc' you ar so right. Addy was never committed he was swayed by more money and was a moody player plenty of wasted opportunities to score more golas when important.. You reap what you sew. Arsenal fans want devoted players like Cesc Fabbie brilliant and RobinV Persie

  5. It's OK to admit going for money. Fans will got upset if players said it. That's why players come up with excuses like new challenge, new playing style. We all know the main reason is money. Nothing wrong with that. If a company offers you 30%-50%, are you not going to listen?
Want to find a real challenge? Go down to Newcastle and see if you can bring them to the Champions' League.
Loyalty is over rated. Arsenal fans, he's Togonese. He can go anywhere. You are the boss. You bought the tickets. If you don't like him, don't buy his shirts. Make yourself heard. Then he will get fired.

Arsenal fans are the most bitter, myopic fans, player-hating fans in London. Who will they hate next...Bendtner, Eboue already..future..Vela,Fabregas. Even when Viera, Pires, Campbell, Henry et al. left it was the same. They said they were shot, best games were behind them, blah, blah, blah. If you keep on putting pressure on your own team, their performances will get worse!

And to no 8 - @#$% mudslinger - you must hate watching a game with so many black millionaires!

  10. How can you talk about poor relationships you muppet. You have to develop a relationship.
Ian Wright, Golden Boot 1991 & 1992 Top club goalscorer.
Thiery Henry, Golden Boot 2004 & 2005 All time top club scorer.
Did these guys threaten to leave at the end of each of their 9 seasons? Did they put in repeated wage demands? Or did they commit to a great club and reap the real reward - Top world strikers.
You carry on on son and chase the money £50k - 80K - and now £130K. But will you ever grace the European stage again, you money grabbing whingeing lazy b+++++d! Good ridance! £22m. in the bank.

  12. let's see how great a coach mark hughes is. Wenger brought out the best in adebayor. Let's wait and see how much further he develops as a player. As for me, i never really liked him from his first season when he missed more times than he scored.Fabregas never goes to the press hyping Barcelona's interest in him. He should ask Alexander Hleb how warm the barca bench is. Now he is being shoved off to Inter for a year.

  16. oh and the reason he didn't go to Milan was cause they didn't meet the asking price set by Arsenal

  17. what he seems to be missing here is that cesc doesn't walk around with a chip on his shoulder about other clubs wanting him, cesc also has never held the club for ransom with his demands for a new contract after ONE good season.
we are fans.. we will call a spade a spade, and in the case of you ade we called you a fat lazy bastid.

U know its hard for someone to try their best when they dont get freakin support from their own fans. Can u blame him for wanting toy with barcelona, milan and real madrid. They are huge clubs. He said it himself, if he wanted money he would have left for milan last season but he stayed. And got zero support.

  20. the fans didnt turn on fabregas because fabregas didnt play like a lazy old man on the field and did2nt compare bercelona to ac milan. you must really feel great with yourself now because Milan, Barcelona & Real Madrid wanted to sign. why didnt you go there to find out yourself how warm their bench is? get out of here. i sure know am not going to miss you.
