The former Celtic captain moved from Parkhead to Nottingham Forest in the summer, however Caley Thistle saw him as a possible contender to replace former boss Charlie Christie, who resigned on Monday.
Lennon's agent Martin Reilly said in The Times: "I spoke to the Caley Thistle people but the timing of this isn't right for Neil."
Reilly suggested Lennon would have been more interested at the end of his playing career, but also indicated the former Northern Ireland midfielder was keen to launch himself as a manager in England.
Reilly also claimed money would rule out a move, believing Inverness lack the funds to make a sufficiently attractive offer to the 36-year-old.
He added: "No disrespect at all to Caley Thistle, but the salary Neil is on at Nottingham Forest surely couldn't be matched or even got close to in Inverness."
