Windass set for showdown talks

Wed 24 Sep, 06:00 PM

Dean Windass will have showdown talks with Hull boss Phil Brown this week after making public his frustration at his lack of action this term. The Hull-born striker, 39, scored the winner in May's play-off final victory over Bristol City that took the Tigers into the top flight for the first time in their history but has made only one Premier League appearance so far this season.

After not even making the squad for the 2-2 draw against Everton last weekend, he has now revealed he will seek a move away from Hull if Brown cannot guarantee him more of a role.

He wrote in his blog on ITV: "These are strange times for me at the club I love as however much I'm enjoying seeing Hull City play in the Premier League, I'm getting more and more frustrated about not being involved.

"And it looked even bleaker on Sunday when I wasn't even named on the bench for the 2-2 draw with Everton. It was the first time in 18 years that I'd been fit but wasn't involved and it hurt like hell.

"I've got a meeting with manager Phil Brown this week to discuss my future and if he tells me that this is the way it's going to be then I will have to consider my options.

"I'm not one of these footballers who doesn't mind picking up a cheque every week for not playing and I also don't want to train every day and then end up taking the dog for a walk on a Saturday.

"At the start of the season the manager made positive noises about me saying I had a role at the club this season and I want to see if this is still the case. If not then fine, but tell me and I'll go and play somewhere else.

"I've always said I'd like to carry on playing until I was 42 and I still think it can be with Hull City in the Premier League, but it's his opinion that counts the most and if he tells me differently I'll accept it and move on."

Windass began his professional career with Hull in 1991 before spells with Aberdeen, Bradford and Middlesbrough, among others. He continued to be a regular goalscorer during his second spell with Bradford, earning him a dream return to Hull last year.

  1. its a shame but lots of players wouldnt even contemplate playing over 35 yrs old, except the likes of /sheringham etc. even shearer would find it hard I reckon, tho he is great!
good old Deano, got Hull into the premiership surely could be given a more prominent role or it is thanks for the memory, hope not

  2. Know one disputes that Deano did a heroic job to help Hull City into the Premier League. I,m afraid he wouldn't get a kick in the top tier because he relies on fooling the match officials into thinking he has been fouled when really he backs into the defender. Yes he has skill and a massive heart and is great for the lower divisions but not subtle enough for the Premier.
Brilliant player who can still do a service to any Championship side and better still could help Bradford back into the Championship. Good luck Deano

  3. Should have gone to Leeds when he had the chance if he wanted more games instead of kidding himself that he could still cut it at the top. As alec black said, hes no Teddy is he. To be honest though, he wouldn't be gauranteed many appearances for Leeds anyway even if he hadn't outright spurned em. its all about a few years worth of Premiership wages if you ask me (cant really blame the bloke).

  4. not a hull fan but I'm backing them to stay up. windass must realise at his age.. its not easy to play at this level.! he lacks pace. he has strength but that alone isn't enough. if he had to technical ability or game intelligence like a teddy sheringham who was playing at 40 a couple seasons ago.. then maybe he could still fit in.. but he has neither and he must realize the manager's 1st priority id always going to be the club..! not players nd their individual concerns.!

if he was good enough the manager would not have gone out and gotten other players. thats a fact. plus its a squad game nowadays. he needs to work for his place.! he'll get chances but he damn sure better take it when it comes.!
