Ligue 1 strugglers Nantes lost 1-0 at third division Creteil in the round of 32 of the Coupe de la Ligue.

A second-half goal by substitute Madjid Bouabdallah was enough to overcome Nantes, who recorded their first Ligue 1 win of the season three days ago.

Top-flight Valenciennes went out to a Ligue 2 side, losing 5-4 on penalties at Vannes. Gregory Pujol gave Valenciennes the lead in extra time before missing his penalty in a lengthy shootout.

In-form Toulouse were also defeated in a penalty shootout at Auxerre in the only all-Ligue 1 tie of the night.

Toulouse went ahead through Dane Soren Larsen but Julien Quercia scored the equaliser in stoppage time for Auxerre and Larsen then missed his penalty in the shootout.

A Loic Remy double helped Nice overcome Boulogne with a 3-1 away win. Boulogne, second in the Ligue 2 table, had got off to a better start through an early goal by Alexandre Cuvillier.

A late goal by Mathieu Scarpelli was enough for Chateauroux to win 1-0 at fellow Ligue 2 side Bastia.

Holders Paris St Germain begin their title defence at Monaco on Wednesday.

PSG were initially banned by the French League from taking part in the Cup after some of their fans held up an abusive banner during last season's final against Racing Lens. They later successfully appealed.

French champions Lyon and last year's Ligue 1 runners-up Bordeaux will only enter the competition in the next round.
