Premier League - Pavlyuchenko in training moan

Eurosport - Wed, 24 Sep 17:50:00 2008

Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has said that he is shocked at the intensity of training at the club, and even admitted that he asked to stop during one weights session.

The Russia international striker signed for £13.8 million from Spartak Moscow before the transfer deadline.

Due to his ineligibility for the UEFA Cup clash against Wisla Krakow in midweek, Pavlyuchenko spent the week in light training. But when there are no matches, it is a different matter entirely.

"In England they have a different system of training," the 26-year-old told Sovetski-Sport. "Right now the games are on Wednesday, Sunday; Wednesday, Saturday.

"Those who played get to recover, and the rest do light training with the ball. It's not that tough.

"But when there is a week's gap between games, training is serious. I barely survived it when I arrived.

"I looked at my watch and saw that the training session had gone on for exactly two hours! Then, there is another half an hour in the gym. Two and a half hours. Can you imagine that?

"I trained harder than ever before. The weights started to get to me, and I stopped and said to the trainer, 'I can't do this'. That's how they work - I'm shocked. I thought it would be a lot easier."

Meanwhile, Southampton denied that Spurs made an approach for highly-rated young forward Adam Lallana.

"There has been no official approach from Tottenham Hotspur for Adam Lallana," a Saints spokesman told the Southern Daily Echo.

  4. I pay good money to train in the gym !! he gets paid to do it!!
2.5 hours is nothing , profesional athletes should be able to handle that easily, also i bet it includes 10 mins stretching either side of the the weigh training

  6. Moan???? How is that a moan????? He's talking about how surprised he is by the difference in training methods and how he's not used to it. He's not saying he won't do it or he wants to go home. It can't be easy to try and keep up to the other players who do it every day so if he finds it hard at the start its hardly a 'moan'. This comment on the other hand is a moan......... about the @#$% writing on this site, they have to sensationalise everything as if they were some tabloid rag.
