Championship - View from the Terraces: QPR

Our man at Loftus Road gives his verdict on how the new Championship season is shaping up for Queens Park Rangers.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Championship - Queens Park Rangers / QPR midfield star Akos Buzsaky - 0

What do you think of the manager? Is there anyone (realistic) out there who would do a better job?

Considering that he does not buy the players, he's just the coach, he's not bad - he has to deal with what he's given. No one is going to be entirely happy with that situation: everyone wants to be in charge - but given the circumstances he's all right. We've only lost once at home this year, so it could be worse.

Who is the best player you've seen playing for another team this season - and who do you fear losing in January?

Kevin Phillips for Birmingham was quality: he's clever, holding the ball up and has some great touches. I don't fear losing anyone because none of them are good enough to step up to the Premier League and no one in the Championship can afford to make us give up our players now.

What was your first match or oldest memory of the club?

Beating Man United 4-1 at Old Trafford on New Years Day 1992 is the first important one I can remember. Dennis Bailey scored a hat-trick!

Are you happy with the new hierarchy at the club? Would you prefer someone from closer to home to be in charge?

I don't care as long as they want to help us go forward. Financially we've sorted out the loan and now on the pitch I'd like to see some signings.

What is the relationship like between the club and the fans? Are ticket prices fair?

This week the club has come out and said every match is going to be 'category C' (i.e. the cheapest) because of the credit crunch. They didn't have to do that. At least they are trying to relate to the fans. It's still expensive, but that's the market these days.

Love your club? We are recruiting fans from each Championship club to have their say throughout the season.

If you are dedicated enough to share your thoughts on your club's fortunes, send an email to viewfromtheterraces@yahoo.co.uk.

Include your team name as the subject and add your name, the town you live in and why you should be chosen as a representative of your club.

  3. drop gorks?? lol every single player at the club should be shown the door. The likes of rowlands and buszaky are skillful and have passion but they aren't big enough for the premier. Lets not forget marc bircham who was rangers through and through and even he wasnt good enough. Besides, any1 even thinking of promotion this year is mad and should be locked up straight away. Face facts, cook, gorkss and the 3 loan signings, firstly they aint premier league players and probably never will be,but how on earth does any1 see that those 5 players would change a relegation threatened team into title favourites??
Don't get me wrong, if i was ever cut i would bleed blue n white blood, such is my love for this club, but i'm a realist and that whole squad of players aint good enough for the championship, let alone the premier league.
Its gr8 to have money at the club and be debt free but theres still the issue of the stadium and training facilities. Briatore wants loftus road full first b4 considering a new stadium, good luck with that! Personally as a person over 6ft,i hated every minute i sat in that ground and now refuse to go anymore. Its a stadium that a league 2 side could be proud of but not a team supposedly going to the premier league.
If they started building now,it could be ready in 2 years and i for one, would definately buy season tickets again, but its not just me, wot top footballer in his right mind would come to rangers and play in a tin hut with mediocre facilities, when there are loads of other clubs who have bigger and better stadiums let alone training facilities.
3 years to be big in the championship?? roflmfao the way we are going that will probably be too much. Any long term plans have to start from the bottom up,they all know that already from their grand prix experience and football is no different.
Oh and 1 more thing, iain dowie, wtf did we do to deserve that!!!!
i think he was appointed to be a YES man,and i dont rate him as a manager.

  4. I agree with Paul Conway about Gorkss thus far but he is probably good cover at centre half (better than Rehman)as we have struggled there with injuries. 100% agree with the need for a striker like a kevin Philips. What Don R has to remember that there is only one objective and that is getting promoted quickly before teh owners lose interest; it is foolish to think you can build for the long term as you lose players before you get out of the league (even Villa and Spurs cant hold onto theirs) so you have to cram it which is why I'm surprised the owners given their wealth haven't been more aggressive.

That said the team could still do it (via playoffs)playing dare I say it a chelsea formation i.e. 4-3-3 / 4-5-1.

The team is Cerney, ramage, connolly (CB), hall, delaney. mahon holding with cook and rowlands/buzaky on right ledesma left and parejo right with blackstock up top. The two left and right sided midfielder can constantly interchange.

The above gives so much flexibility and makes good use of our strength in midfield and compensates for weakness up front. Forget 442 for now.

  5. We have to Concenrate on something we haven't had since the Terry Venables/Gerry Francis era's at the Club and that is Consistency. Our defence really need's to tighten up to achieve that and as any Great Manager will say "You have to build from the Back" If we can sort out our defensive frailities, the Midfield will grow in confidence and they are good now.We do need another out and out striker, who can finish a move and have a natural ability to score goal's.There's 2 approaches to this either 1) Get a proven Goalscorer or 2)Get someone young who is full of running to the point where he can leave an opposing defence scratching their heads when he scores a goal.Personally Im in favour of option 2 as its all too easy to sign up a "Proven Goalscorer" who in reality has reached his sell by date,by contrast,if you get someone young and focused, they wont blow their chances as their career depends on it.Go for it Rangers, and get Focused and give us Consistency
