Jakob Fuglsang has committed his long-term future to Saxo Bank by signing a new three-year deal.
The former mountain bike rider enjoyed an impressive debut season for the Danish team as he won the Tour of Denmark and the Tour of Slovenia.
He also finished second in the Giro dell'Emilia; had top 10 finishes in the Volta a Catalunya, the Dauphine Libere and the Tour of Ireland; and at the Vuelta a Espana, he finished second on one stage and third in two others.
Saxo Bank owner and former Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis said that Fuglsang has the potential to compete for the biggest prize in the sport.
"Jakob is without a doubt one of the biggest talents in cycling and this season he has underlined his huge potential," he said.
"To make a top professional debut like this has hardly been seen before and I have no doubt that Jacob can go far in the sport.
"Without overestimating, I would not be surprised if he is seen in the forefront of the Tour de France within a few years.
"To extend his contract with another three years is a huge win for the team and I am sure he will take another major step up the rankings next year. Jakob is well on his way to becoming a complete rider."

Shame on you @paulandlyndsay - what a pathetic comment.
We all know of the last Dane to come from mountainbiking and lead the tour lets hope he is not so elusive.
I think Jakob could be a top 10 finisher in TDF in 2010, he is a very accomplished climber already.
oh im not sayin hes bad i just dont think he will be a tour de france contender
Not bad though keeping in mind that Andy Schleck won the Giro(in my opinion) when he was only 21. On the other hand we don't know how many rookie pros totally bomb and never race again.
im not as convinced as bjarne
