Baggies thwarted by Coventry

Sat, 24 Oct 18:25:57 2009

Chris Wood wasted a late chance as West Brom and Coventry played out a goalless midlands derby that never seriously threatened to find a winner and subsequently cost Albion their place at the summit of the Coca-Cola Championship table.

Throughout the 90 minutes, the clash lacked the quality you would expect from the division's top side and was even devout of the frenetic energy and atmosphere you would expect from two local teams coming together.

The last six encounters between these two sides had provided a total of 24 goals but there was very little for the 20,871 crowd at the Ricoh Arena to get excited about this time around.

The game's single real talking point came in first-half stoppage time when Jerome Thomas appeared to be tripped in the penalty area by Martin Cranie but referee Keith Stroud opted instead to book the Albion winger for diving.

The goalless scoreline means Roberto Di Matteo's side have now won just one of their last six while Coventry, who kept their first clean sheet in 11 games, have tasted success just once in their last seven.

  1. Spot on Paul. This problem has been going on since Phillips was released. He has never been replaced

  2. We played a poor Cov side with a team of midfielders!!
    Jara
    Mulumbu
    Dorrans
    Koren
    Thomas

With Chech and Texiera coming on we never looked like scoring....sigh, where is SuperKev when you need him?
    Sort it out please RDM.

  3. This "Striker Problem" or should I say, lack of a good striker, is the biggest bugbear. We have consistantly signed forwards who are unable to produce their form at WBA. I look at Luke Moore and can't beleive he is the
same player who did well at the Villa. Did he ever really want to play for the Baggies ?

On current form, we are going backwards. Get it sorted out !

  4. RDM,needs to get a grip,we are looking like a team of lost boys out there, going back to the Palace game when we were bullied around the pitch, clueless at Barnsley, had the breaks against Reading, but came crashing back to reality against Swansea, then the latest display against a very poor Coventry,we were awful,a team we would have put to the sword a few weeks ago and we couldn`t find the key to unlock the door, the team just does not look or perform right,is it me or have we `burned` out? tell me Dorrans and Mulumba are the same players Koren dosent want to know,Mattox is not a full back,Thomas flatters to decieve and i cannot find words to describe mr Moore, why did we change and put Jara in midfield ? our best player of late didnt get a kick, sort it out Roberto,oh and why dont you put Cox out on loan cos he will never wear an Albion shirt will he,
