Chelsea gave Carlo Ancelotti a perfect tonic as they soared back to the top of the Barclays Premier League with a 5-0 demolition of Blackburn at Stamford Bridge.
Ancelotti, back in the dugout after visiting his seriously ill father in Italy in midweek, watched his side produce a fabulous performance against ragged Rovers to go two points clear at the summit.
Chelsea destroyed Sam Allardyce's side with two goals from Frank Lampard, one a penalty, plus others from Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and an own goal from Gael Givet.
Four goals in a 15-minute second half spell handed Rovers their biggest defeat since Allardyce took charge at Ewood Park and kept Ancelotti's 100% home record intact.
Chelsea broke the deadlock in the 20th minute with a goal of classic simplicity.
Michael Ballack fed Nicolas Anelka on the left flank with a superb low pass and when the France international crossed the ball into the six-yard box, it was turned past his own goalkeeper by the unfortunate Givet.
Chelsea, somewhat predictably, went further in front in the 48th minute through Lampard. Essien sent Drogba racing into the penalty area and his cross was only half cleared by Lars Jacobsen, leaving England midfielder Lampard to pick his spot from eight yards.
It was 3-0 in the 51st minute when Essien sent a 35-yard shot thundering beyond the despairing dive of Paul Robinson.
It got worse for Rovers in the 58th minute when central defender Ryan Nelsen brought down Drogba inside the penalty area and Lampard converted the spot-kick for his second of the game.
Drogba underlined Chelsea's superiority in the 63rd minute when he rose highest to head home a corner by Lampard to make it 5-0. It was the Ivory Coast international's eighth goal of the season.

it was BALLACK's corner you dumb worthless journalist.
When did you ever see Lampard, ever serve a corner like that?
Typical english bullshitter. But I will get my chance to laugh at theworld cup, when you @#$% team of high expectations comes home early, and then maybe you can write again, how Lampard's team, I mean Ballack's makes is to the semifinal.
It's all peaches if Lampard is Ballack, and Ballack is Ballack to idiots who write such articles. As long as Lampard get's credit, it doesn't matter who scores, who creates the scores, they are all Lampards.
Thus Chelsea conveying msg to all top clubs in Europe who ever may be they ll b destroyed in Stamford Bridge .Home win Record ll continue viva la chelsea chelsea chelsea chelsea............................
fifth goal scored by drogba from Michael Ballack corner not lampard plz post it correctly

Well big Sam, ive seen some performances in my time but the last two away games have got to be boardering on the most inept ive ever seen from the team (and I use that word in jest) once again we try to defend for 90 minutes when we cant defend at home for more than 4 minutes before we give the opposition a 1 goal start!.
Where are you comming from is what not only i want to know but im sure all the rovers faithfull also,
Whats it going to be next week another 6/7/8/9 defensive debacle against united??
Why not go out to cause them a few problems up front by playing more than the office junior up there on his own?? We tried it at arsenal and it backfired but at least we gave them a scare and the fans something to shout about albeit it didnt last long. Attack them and see if we cant at least come away with some credit for going to old trafford and playing some football!
I suppose in reality there arn't many teams going to try defend for 90 minutes at the big four and get anything other than a good hiding but at least lets give it a go!
I heard John Terry was hugely overweight at the end and had to be helped off the pitch????? it wasn't untill they looked in his back pocket that they found Roberts in there !!!! what a waste of a team place how long is it now since he actually scored a goal?? was it 2008 at lincoln city?? (oppoligies to Lincoln City) he probeebly wouldnt score against them either and neither would his mate Mcduff!!!!
Blackburn were @#$%!!
satisfying win good to see joe cole back hopefully he can be the missing link that at times we need
