Last-gasp Nolan puts Magpies top

Sat, 24 Oct 18:29:58 2009

Kevin Nolan struck his eighth goal of the season two minutes into injury-time to end Newcastle's four-match winless run and preserve their unbeaten home record as Doncaster were beaten 2-1.

The former Bolton midfielder's 18-yard drive went in off the post to cap a stirring comeback from the home side who had initially trailed to Dean Shiels' 18th-minute opener.

Andy Carroll had shrugged off a string of horror misses to bring Newcastle level midway through the second half, while Martin Woods missed a penalty for Doncaster.

The home side also had Zurab Khizanishvili sent off for reacting to a challenge by Billy Sharp in a frantic finish.

The win also means that United caretaker boss Chris Hughton can go into his proposed contract talks with owner Mike Ashley tonight in better heart.

  6. It was a poor performance by the Toon. The likes of Doncaster and Scunthorpe et all, should be brushed aside as the Toon march back to the Prem.
But, there are problems and they will not be resolved as long as Ashley holds the reins and keeps his wallet shut.
But, got to keep the faith.

    Toon Army.

  7. I'm just back from the Pantomime, sorry, I mean the match. It's good to see that Doncaster have an Equal Opportunity's for Dwarves protocol in operation. Anyway, we were cr@p and we still somehow won the game. I never thought I'd see the day when a team like Doncaster could come to Newcastle and cause us so many problems. They probably deserved a point, but what let them down for me was the blatant time wasting. Real men don't go down that easy.

So even with all of that help you got from that disgrace of a referee, you went home with NOWT. Cheats and panto dwarves. Bye then
