Laws lambastes lax defending

Sat, 24 Oct 13:00:15 2009

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws blasted his side's defending as "a shambles" after their 4-1 defeat to Watford.

Defender Adrian Mariappa gave Watford the lead from close range, and Henri Lansbury swept in a fine second after a one-two with Tom Cleverley.

Marcus Tudgay gave Brian Laws' side some hope. But Jon Harley and then Lansbury again scored excellent second-half goals to give the Hornets a thoroughly deserved three points.

"The only way to remedy defending like that is to make changes, and I will have to do that now," said Laws.

"I am bitterly disappointed. I can't stomach basic mistakes like that. They walked through our defence at times, and you just cannot defend like that.

"Every one of them has to take responsibility. They were a shambles, and it's the first time I've ever had to say that about my team."

  1. re comment 2, im not convinced that laws would know what to do with any transfer funds, look at his last few signings, darren purse-not good enough, jermaine johnson-lightning quick but cant cross or do much else, lewis buxton-not good enough, akpo sodje-spends more time on the treatment table than my dinner plate spends on my kitchen table and last but not least franny jeffers-signed in desperation because billy sharp and gregorz riasiak had turned us down, what a total waste of money that was and if we are honest we could have told him before hand and saved him about a million quid. i was happy with the signing of laws when he came as a few weeks before i saw scunny destroy notts forest with an exellent brand of football, but 3 yrs on i cant see how we have got any better, laws has had plenty of time but im afraid its time to go!!!

  2. totally agree with teamstone, i myself think Brian Laws is only there because of the lack of decent managers out there. Giving their sponsorship money away and spending money improving the ground, dream on.
Wasnt it only a month or so ago that wednesday played like real madrid more like real tossers now.
Average team, average players, average manager, another average season.

  3. Our wage bill for players is bottom 10 not top 10 of this Division.. and sad to say Money is a big factor in every division..So lets give Laws some funds for players.. so he can bring in 2 or 3.. we need...

  4. its about time, but to be fair purse and buxton are your signings so are you not too blame bri? also how can you say you were dissapointed last night after tuesdays performance, did we not really lose on tue did we all imagine that one?fed up of the excuses, instead of impoving the ground how about this, we spend the money on a centre half,a full back and a forward who actually knows where the goal is and doesnt get injured on every third saturday, how about that for a plan????well if all else fails we could always blame it on the attendance we get at hillboro, havent heard that excused for about a month now!!!!owls forever but gutted at the moment
