The victory took Rangers to joint top of the standings with rivals Celtic, on 28 points from their 13 games.

Spanish defender Carlos Cuellar put Rangers in front after 20 minutes when he squirmed back to meet a swirling corner from American DaMarcus Beasley from the right to send a looping header into the top left from eight metres.

French striker Jean-Claude Darcheville slotted in the second from six metres following a low cross on the left by Lee McCulloch.

Falkirk substitute Pedro Moutinho set up an anxious finish when he pulled a goal back in 62 minutes. The Portuguese forward gathered the ball on his chest 10 metres out before drilling a low shot into the net.

However, Rangers striker Kris Boyd tucked in his team's third in injury time from substitute Steve Naismith's low cross.

Champions Celtic, who have 28 points from 12 games, are at home to Aberdeen later on Saturday.
