Fly-half Jonathan Sexton has been preferred to veteran Ronan O'Gara for Ireland's clash with world champions South Africa at Croke Park on Saturday.
In a surprise move by Ireland coach Declan Kidney, Sexton (pictured) has seized the number 10 jersey from O'Gara as reward for his outstanding display in Saturday's 41-6 victory over
The last time O'Gara, who is included on the bench, was dropped was in 2003 and the Lions veteran has had a stranglehold on the position ever since.
But the composure shown by Sexton in dismantling Fiji on his Test debut has convinced Kidney he is ready to face the world and Tri-Nations champions.
It is a bold selection that rewards the 24-year-old's sparkling form since being thrust onto centre stage during the latter rounds of Leinster's march to their first Heineken Cup crown last season.
Otherwise, Kidney has kept faith with the XV that drew 20-20 with
Ulster's Paddy Wallace is restored at inside centre where he is preferred ahead of Gordon D'Arcy, who features among the substitutes.
Cian Healy of Leinster resumes loose-head duties after missing out against Fiji because of a shoulder injury.
Munster prop Tony Buckley supplies front row cover from a bench which sees scrum-half Peter Stringer get the nod ahead of Eoin Reddan.
Back row Denis Leamy also feature among the replacements despite suffering an ankle injury against the Fijians.

Haha wit all honesty best of luck to sexton against south africa iv been hoping kidney would see sense in giving the young lad a chance against the best of opposition
Thanks!
Very impressive lads, but his accent wont affect the score.
Shane - In a few words - excellent description.
Haha il b happy to answer tat for ya man a d4 is a common stereotype of a person from the wealthy south area of dublin more commonly the Dublin 4 area. They are very smug love indie music lik block party and the kooks and hav a distinctive accent. they love rugby and are die hard leinster fans
I agree totally with decision to play Sexton, I like O Gara and he has done nothing to suggest he is dropped for playing reasons. But the South Africa game, though a test match is a game with little at stake. Therefore you have to try Sexton against quality opposition. I hope he does well which I beleive he will. A replacment for Hayes is badly needed. He is nearing the end of a long tough career. Id like to see a replacement coming in and tried out this weekend. The Bull surely wont be playing in the next WC!!!
What the hell is a "D4" accent ??, as a Welshman please excuse my ignorance.
While i cant deny im disappointed for O Gara, Kidney mustve made the right choice in his mind, and since he has never been wrong before its wrong to disagree with his decision. He'll probably be proven right. Im just happy Sexton doesnt have a D4 accent either, not having one makes him much more likeable.
I'm impressed Kidney had the balls to drop O'Gara for this one. Right choice as well in my mind but I thought he'd take the old dog for the hard road as they say. He just keeps on doing the right things.
And, at home with Ireland playing well, with both teams at full strength I really believe we could beat them. Doesn't matter now though.
I forgot to say im delighted to see sexton included. he should take it in his stride.
The change at 10 was well managed by Kidney, even if most of us were calling for rog's head before the first test. ROG still has a lot to offer and the competition should be great ovet the next couple of years, but at the moment Sexton is the right man for the job.
Im inclined to agree with Markear.
On paper they should beat us. On the day they will edge the lineout. The scrums should be about even. They will win the breakdown but our backs are superior.
Our pack will need to front up if we're going to beat them and I think they will.
Theres no shortage of motivation for our lads after the lions tour, while I reckon the boks just want to go home at this stage. The stunning november weather cant be helping their preparations either.
Add in home advantage, 84000 Irish supporters and the fact that the boks are knackered and id say we ought to handle them. I wouldnt be betting the house on it though.
I expect it'll be a bad tempered match (how could it be any other way with boks in it?) but unless they're out of sight by the last quarter they'll be there for the taking.
should be a good game, definitely come out on top though, pretty amazing bench to be fair as well
Markear
I'm sure he just meant to say: " gotta love SOME of the irish, (but not all of them because they are all individuals in their own right and with many differing levels of literacy and humour)"
No ptohej, I'm just a realist. If the SA team was full strenght and we played them on neutral territory they would beat us 9 times out of 10. I think we have a very good team right now but that SA team is one of the best international teams that I have seen in a long time.
'With the number of injuries that SA have and home advantage, I reckon we can win.' Markear, what defeatism is this??
We could beat them at full strength!!
C'mon Ireland!!!
Re Matthew; so just because one individual cannot spell you decide to paint all the Irish with the same brush. That's one hell of a generalization.
As for Kidney's decision to play Sexton, I am delighted to see he is playing players who are in form unlike what Eddie O'Sullivan used to do. This is what the autumn tests are for. With the number of injuries that SA have and home advantage, I reckon we can win.
7 Munster
5 leinster
2 ulster (1 osprey)
For some reason i was convinced leinster had the majority, but i guess with fitzgerald out... irrelevant anywho. Brave decision by kidney but prob the right one. Ireland to win by 4
Timbcaycgi... Everything you have wrote is spot on.
But it was hard making sense of it at times, now I can forgive the majority of spelling and mistakes.... but Kearney, Bowe and Fitzgerald are all written above!!
Got to love the Irish!
Although I do hope you smash South Africa at the weekend!! :oD
This is a good selection as Sexton is now the obvious number 10 to replace O Gara. Sexton is a consistent kicker thats true but to get the game craft like when to kick for the sideline or point at the posts he needs games. What would happen if Ogara was to get injured in a six nantions game and was out for the season we would expect Sexton to slot rifgr in without any real experiance lets forget figi last week that was not a true chalange for sexton my local club number 10 could have played that game against less than ordinary opposistion. Figi are minos noting but the scrapings off the teeth of the all blacks who are not all that goos might i add with out Carter there beatable by any good international side. So butting Sexton in against south africa is a good idea at least then the irish managemant will see if he can handle big games. Sexton will be the irish number 10 at the next world cup and with the recent findings such as karney boye and fitsgearald ireland have a true chance of been in the shake up at the end of the tournament in Karney we have the best fb in the game in the centre we have the best paring in world rugby. Things are good for the future in irish rugby.
well done Declan Kidney these are the games that players like Jonathan Sexton should be playing to bring there careers on. Roanan Ogara has been a great servant to irish rugby but the younger player have to be brought on and given game time especially against the best in the world south africa.
