Forest plan January shopping spree

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies does not want to see a repeat of the club's failings in the last January transfer window when it comes to strengthening his squad in the new year.

The Reds narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship last season but Davies believes they could have challenged for a play-off place had the club not missed out on key signings in January.

After finally being able to add to his squad in the summer, the Scot has been proved right with Forest currently ninth in the table and only one point off a play-off spot.

Davies insists landing his targets is vital this time round if the club are to maintain their promotion bid. He said: "We have to add to the quality of the squad we have got in the window.

"I know in my own mind who I want and how many we want. Ideally we want a 24-man squad. We are looking at three or four new players.

"Last January we scraped through by the skin of our teeth and the summer was very important, when we had great support from the board, but we still missed out on one or two key signings. This January is no different and it is very important we are successful because we will pick up injuries and suspensions."
