Marseille president Pape Diouf will not be making any rash moves when the transfer window opens in January. The club backed former coach Albert Emon in the summer but to no avail, as a poor start to the season saw Emon replaced by Belgian Eric Gerets.
Now Diouf is keen not to repeat the same mistakes, though he admits there are areas that need strengthening.
"There are two distinct parts," he told the official Marseille website. "First of all there are the discussions among ourselves, with Jose (Anigo, sporting director) and Eric, when we determine our needs and the solutions that will give the team the best balance.
"Trigger-happy recruitment doesn't solve many problems. We thought we had done some savvy recruitment in the off-season but that's not how it turned out.
"So we're not in any rush to grab players.
"We have established what we see as the deficiencies in our side and now we need to target the players who can bring added value and balance to the side."
