Larrieu will delay treatment

Fri 25 Jan, 10:16 AM

Romain Larrieu should be in Argyle's squad to face Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Saturday despite the discovery of a small growth in his abdomen. The problem requires treatment and is expected to put the 31-year-old out of action for a couple of months.

"Romain has a slight growth in his abdomen," manager Paul Sturrock told the club's website.

"He will be involved on Saturday because there is still a debate to be had on when his treatment will start.

"It is 99.9% sure that it will be rectified with treatment but it does set him back as far as the next six to eight weeks.

"We are very hopeful that, with the way the treatment will be done, he will be out performing for us by the end of the season.

"It puts football into perspective when things like this happen but there is no danger to his life in any way. It will be sorted and he will be as good as new."

Sturrock's overhaul of his squad has continued with midfielder Gyorgy Sandor from Budapest club Ujpest joining the Hungarian contingent at Home Park.

"I saw Gyorgy play for Hungary Under 21s against Scotland at Livingston a few seasons ago and he made an impression," Sturrock said.

"He is overcoming a knee injury but the opportunity of signing a player of his quality was too good to miss.

"He's a full Hungarian international and we're pleased to have him."

New signings Steven MacLean and Exeter's Jamie Mackie are cup-tied and it is likely Rory Fallon will start up front possibly alongside Jermaine Easter or Lucas Jutkiewicz, while on-loan Aberdeen defender Chris Clark will make his Argyle debut.
