Wilkinson Up For Laureus Award

Lewis Hamilton, Christine Ohuruogu, Paula Radcliffe and Jonny Wilkinson are among the nominees for the 2008 Laureus World Sports Awards.

Also nominated are Paralympic pair Darren Kenny and Sarah Storey, four-time kiteboard world champion Aaron Hadlow and the Great Britain rugby league team.

Hamilton has been nominated for the world breakthrough award after finishing runner-up in the drivers' championship in his debut Formula One season.

England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson, the rugby World Cup's all-time leading scorer, New York Marathon champion Paula Radcliffe, 400m world champion Christine Ohuruogu and the Great Britain rugby league side, who completed a 3-0 whitewash of New Zealand, have all been nominated for the world comeback of the year.

Tennis star Roger Federer has again been nominated in the world sportsman of the year after winning for the last three years.

However, he will face competition from the likes of swimmer Michael Phelps, athlete Tyson Gay, Tiger Woods, Kaka and Kimi Raikkonen.

Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva will hope to retain her award as world sportswoman of the year.

Other nominees are multi world champion swimmer Libby Lenton, Justine Henin, athlete Carolina Kluft, Brazilian footballer Marta and golfer Lorena Ochoa.

Other categories are world team of the year, world sportsperson of the year with a disability - including Kenny and Storey - and world action sportsperson of the year, including Hadlow.
