The FA have confirmed that Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor will not face punishment for his alleged headbutt on team-mate Nicklas Bendtner.

FOOTBALL Emmanuel Adebayor Nicklas Bendtner are seperated during the Carling Cup tie with Tottenham - 0

The pair squared up seven minutes from time in Arsenal's 5-1 Carling Cup defeat to Tottenham, the Gunners' first defeat to their north London rivals since 1999.

Adebayor drew blood with what was thought to be a butt to the bridge of Bendtner's nose, and the pair had to be separated by William Gallas and Mathieu Flamini.

The FA requested footage of the incident but have now announced that they will not be pursuing the matter.

An FA spokesman said: "No formal disciplinary action will be taken against Emmanuel Adebayor.

"Both players will be written to remind them of their responsibilities."

However, Arsenal could still discipline the Togo international internally, although Adebayor has already come out and apologised for his actions.

"Overall I think that we should have been more calm during the game and although I was pleased to get a goal back for the team when I came on, I am sorry for the disagreement with my team-mate Nicklas," he said.

"We are both passionate about this club and sometimes that can be projected in the wrong way. It was a mistake. We want to focus on the games ahead and rely on our squad's great togetherness to achieve a fantastic season."

Meanwhile, Bendtner's father Thomas has blasted Adebayor's for the "attack" on his son.

"It's a shame that a player like Adebayor walks out on the pitch without a brain, that he leaves it at home," he told Ekstra Bladet.

"It's not the first time he's done that. It's obvious that Adebayor has to defend himself, but the television pictures tell you what happened.

"This episode is not fortunate, but I'm sure Arsenal will sort this out. We'll wait and see."
