Brent building for sustainable future

Plymouth could become a profitable club at npower League Two level according to owner James Brent, although he has greater aspirations for the club.

Brent, who took over at Home Park in October and has since steered the Devon club firmly towards financial security, is keen to move Argyle back up the Football League ladder.

But having learnt the lessons of the past from the Pilgrims' previous owners, the London-based businessman is not about to risk the club's future in the process.

"I think for a club like Argyle there is a sustainable business model at each league level. I think Argyle, well run, can break even," Brent told Press Association Sport.

"If we were happy, which we aren't, just to carry on in League Two we could actually make quite a bit of money but of course what we want to do is invest, get into League One and then the Championship.

"But we'll do that proportionately. We've got a very good finance director in place who is also the finance director of our retail business, and he's got a pre-written will that if I ever suggest certain things he will execute me publicly."
