Knill admits to Iron struggles

Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill conceded his side are in the midst of a difficult period after their 3-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday left them one point above the relegation zone.

Former Bury boss Knill replaced Ian Baraclough at Glanford Park in March last year, but could not fend off relegation from the Championship and has seen this season wrecked by injuries to key players.

Full-back Christian Ribeiro, on loan from Bristol City, lasted little more than 30 seconds of his home debut before going off with a head injury and Scunthorpe were temporarily down to 10 men when Wednesday opened the scoring.

Knill said: "That seems to have been the story of our season. The squad does need strengthening and that is what we're still trying to do. But whenever we bring someone in new, they seem to get injured."

Wednesday striker Chris O'Grady struck twice in the opening 17 minutes and winger Jermaine Johnson added a third for the visitors just after half-time before Jordan Robertson netted his first goal for the Iron.

Knill added: "I thought we did give it a go in the second half, but it was too late. These are difficult times for us at the moment. They have been all season. We need to get some of our good players back off the treatment table."

  1. MR KNILL you must put some faith in your team your only putting your players under presure to scuceed for yourself , the key is to let them be them selfs then you will get your sucess off the back of the players which they have the ability to do,

  2. I think you have been given long enough Mr Knill. It's time to go before we go into the 2nd division. Before you know it we will be another Grimsby Town if the board aren't careful. How much more can the board accept from someone who continually says 'unlucky' 'we have a lot out injured' . What is actually happening during training..... is it the training that creates this long injury list? Mr Knill must have one of the worst records and still have a job! Poor old Mr Barraclough got the boot with possibly a better record. We won't be attracting any new players the way we are going and no-one will want to loan us any players !! come on save The Iron from division 2 and sack the manager and more importantly save yourself some money in the long run because he will only take you down and then you will be in trouble!
