Pearson changes transfer plans

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson admits he has been forced to re-think his transfer targets this month.

Prior to the January transfer window opening, Pearson insisted the squad was unbalanced and that signing wide players was his priority.

However, injuries to strikers Darius Vassell and Jeffery Schlupp and midfielders Paul Gallacher, Andy King, Matt Oakley and Frank Moussa, coupled with defenders John Pantsil and Sol Bamba going away to the African Nations Cup, have led to Pearson altering his objectives.

"We have picked up one or two knocks and with the departure of one or two players we don't have great numbers," said Pearson, who brought in Aston Villa striker Nathan Delfouneso on a one-month loan deal this week.

"One of our aims in the window was to bring in some wide players, but circumstances have changed a bit and we are just trying to get good players into the football club."

The City boss added: "I am always looking to strengthen the team and the squad because we are trying to build on a squad ethic so when we do pick up injuries or players are out of form we have players who can go in there."
