Smith set for Tykes loan

Wed, 25 Jan 11:42:28 2012

Barnsley have completed the loan signing of Norwich midfielder Korey Smith, subject to Football League approval.

The 20-year-old will stay at Oakwell for an initial month and is expected to go straight into Keith Hill's squad for next Tuesday's home clash with Derby.

Smith played a key role in Norwich's npower League One title-winning season in 2009/10 and made 30 appearances for them last season in the Championship, but following the club's promotion to the Barclays Premier League he has featured only once, against MK Dons in the Carling Cup.

Smith, whose loan deal will expire after Barnsley's league game at Coventry on February 25, is the second midfielder to join the Tykes this week following Tuesday's arrival of Michael Tonge on loan from Stoke until the end of the season.
