Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins has decided not to appeal against Matt Sparrow's dismissal in the clash with Southampton. The 24-year-old midfielder was shown a straight red card for serious foul play following his second-half tackle on Saints' defender Wayne Thomas.
Adkins revealed after the match he was furious with referee Jonathan Moss's decision to send off Sparrow and then award Southampton a late penalty for alleged shirt pulling.
Sparrow, the ninth Scunthorpe player to be sent off this season, will now serve a three-game ban, while defender Andy Butler will sit out a one-match suspension after reaching five bookings.
