Cousin Helps Maintain Status Quo

Daniel Cousin netted what could be his last-ever goal for Rangers to set the ball rolling on a 4-2 win over Gretna in the Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League on Sunday.

The striker should finally learn this week whether his protracted £3million move to Fulham will be sanctioned by FIFA, but he made the most of what could be his final involvement at Ibrox.

His opener was followed by goals from Steven Naismith, Chris Burke and Kris Boyd, with Kenny Deuchar's double for Gretna merely consolation.

The result leaves Rangers four points clear at the top of the SPL - but Celtic needed an 87th-minute goal against St Mirren to prevent the gap from opening to six.

Substitute Shunsuke Nakamura was the man to bail out the Bhoys as their clash with the lowly Saints looked to be petering out into a 0-0 draw.

Hoops 'keeper Artur Boruc had earlier made two fine saves, from David van Zanten's volley and Billy Mehmet's drive, to keep the home side at bay.

But with four minutes remaining, Nakamura, on for Barry Robson just after the hour mark, curled home a free-kick from 25 yards to claim all three points.

St Mirren were incensed by a foul being given against Gary Mason on Nakamura which allowed the Japanese midfielder to show his set-piece expertise.

In Sunday's other game, Craig Bryson scored his first two Kilmarnock goals and set up another as the Ayrshire side beat Aberdeen 3-1 for their first league win since Boxing Day.

The former Clyde midfielder volleyed home in the 14th minute and crossed for Frazer Wright to head a second just before the interval.

Bryson then rounded off a convincing win and not even a late Alan Combe own goal could dampen the mood at Rugby Park as Killie moved 12 points ahead of rock-bottom Gretna in the SPL.
