Women's British number two Anne Keothavong and men's number three Jamie Baker each collected their first titles of 2008.

Baker, who spared Britain from a whitewash in their Davis Cup first-round tie against Argentina with a singles win over Agustin Calleri two weeks ago, claimed victory in the $15,000 (£7,633) Futures event in Brownsville, Texas.

The 21-year-old Baker continued his fine start to 2008 sweeping through the draw without dropping a set before beating top seeded American Kevin Anderson 7-6(1) 6-4 in the final.

Earlier this year Baker came through qualifying at the Australian Open to reach the main draw of a Grand Slam without a wild card for the first time in his career.

Keothavong, meanwhile, was made to fight for her first title since July beating 18-year-old Russian Vesna Manasieva 6-1 2-6 6-3 in the final to claim the trophy at the $25,000 (£12,717) ITF event in Capriolo, Italy.

The top-seeded Hackney native was coming off of four victories in four rubbers at the Fed Cup Euro/Africa Zone Group Phase earlier this month.

The 24-year-old Keothavong will now travel to Bangalore, India for next week's Tier II WTA event, which features Serena and Venus Williams, as well as world number four Jelena Jankovic.

British number six Sarah Borwell also had success in the Capriolo event, claiming the doubles title with South African Kelly Anderson after beating Darija Jurak and Ivana Lisjak 7-6(7) 6-4 in the final.
