Marseille are waiting on the fitness of Mamadou Niang after the striker suffered a recurrence of a knee injury.

OM manager Eric Gerets has confirmed that Niang has sustained a knock to his knee in the same place where he damaged it in December.

The 28-year-old was out of action for seven weeks at the turn of the year.

Gerets said: "We will see in the next few days. I hope it doesn't pose a problem for the weekend."

Niang is Marseille's top scorer with 12 goals in 20 appearances so far this season.

He has been an influential factor in Marseille's rise from 19th place in the league in October to getting them back in contention for a European place next season.
