Perpignan's New Zealand fly-half Dan Carter will have Achilles tendon surgery in Lyon on Friday.
Carter had originally said at a Monday press conference that he would have an operation in Paris but it has become clear that the surgery will now take place in France's second city, Lyon.
Perpignan club spokesman Patrick Brazes said: "Dan Carter will have an operation in Lyon on Friday."
The 26-year-old Carter, at full fitness probably the best player in the world, is unlikely to be back in action for six months.
The 59-Test veteran and 2005 world player of the year injured his left Achilles tendon while playing for Perpignan against Stade Francais at the Stade de France on Saturday.
Carter only played five matches for Perpignan -- one in the European Cup, four in the French Top 14 competition -- and scored 45 points (three conversions and 13 penalties).
