Buckley: Prove you want the shirt

Tue 25 Mar, 02:16 PM

Grimsby manager Alan Buckley blasted his players following defeat to Brentford in their last game before the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final. The Mariners take on MK Dons at Wembley on Sunday, but did not get the send off they had hoped for at Blundell Park after second-half goals from Alan Connell and Wayne Brown clinched the Bees a deserved 2-1 win on Monday.

Buckley said: "Since we got through to Wembley, we've not been the same force.

"I wanted to win the game because the door to the play-offs has been opening wider for us. It didn't seem as if the players understood that.

"As far as Wembley goes, who would pick a team from that performance? People have got to get out there and prove they want a shirt at Wembley.

"Nobody has a divine right to play there, and looking at that it would be hard to pick a team - that's how poor we were."
