Downing calls on Robins to fight

Tue 25 Mar, 04:45 PM

Cheltenham manager Keith Downing has called on his side to "fight and scrap" to secure survival following their 1-0 win over Leyton Orient.Paul Connor's 47th-minute strike at Whaddon Road ensured the Robins moved eight points clear of the relegation zone.

And now Downing is desperate for his side to finish the job - and the sooner they do it, the better.

He said: "We are on our way and it's a great boost for everyone. We could have scored a lot more and we hit the woodwork three times - so on a good day we could have won two or three nil.

"We have to work every fibre to get ourselves over the line, which is typical Cheltenham. We have to fight and scrap for everything and we are striving to achieve things in a difficult league.

"We will keep defying the odds and the spirit and soul of the place is special so don't bet against us."
