McParland: We still can't relax

Tue 25 Mar, 04:00 PM

Manager Ian McParland was happy with Notts County's points return from the Easter period following his side's goalless draw against Shrewsbury. The point at the New Meadow followed Saturday's 1-0 home win over play-off chasing Rochdale and extended the gap between County and the bottom two to seven points.

"We still can't relax even though there are seven points now between us and the bottom teams, especially with Mansfield coming to us in a local derby at the weekend," said McParland.

"It was tough for us in the second half. We defended really well, but we caused a lot of the problems ourselves."

It was County's seventh away game without defeat, but they had to thank a makeshift defence and goalkeeper Russell Hoult for keeping Shrewsbury at bay. Hoult tipped a stoppage time shot by Steve Leslie that was heading for the top corner over the crossbar.

"It was a good save, though I expected him to do that. After all, he has played at a high level," said McParland. "I thought Gary Silk was a rock - he was our best player - and he came close to scoring for us in the first half."
