Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore made no attempt to hide his fury after his promotion-seekers suffered a major setback by losing 2-1 at Bournemouth. So depleted were Bournemouth by injuries that manager Kevin Bond was forced to give full debuts to teenagers Josh McQuoid and Billy Franks.
Antony Kay's late goal was not enough to prevent promotion-seeking Rovers slumping to a surprise defeat at the hands of the relegation-haunted Cherries.
Moore said: "We got what we deserved and I am bitterly disappointed. Our fans will have travelled five or six hours on a bus to watch this. It was totally unacceptable.
"One or two of my players might have thought it was going to be easy. It will not happen again.
"With due respect to Bournemouth, this side they put out was here to be beaten. They would have been looking at damage limitation."
