Simpson slams 'lifeless' display

Tue 25 Mar, 04:45 PM

Manager Paul Simpson described Shrewsbury's first-half performance as "lifeless" and "unacceptable" following the draw with Notts County. The hosts were much-improved in the second half following James Constable's half-time introduction from the bench but Simpson's search for a first victory continues.

"We were lifeless in the first half. I said at half-time that was not acceptable," said Simpson. "On another day we would have scored in the second half, but in fairness County defended well, got the blocks in and cleared one or two off the line.

"Our defence did well as they did on Saturday, but we have to be more relaxed and confident up front. Steve Leslie had a good game though."

Simpson included Graeme Lee, on loan from Doncaster, in the heart of Shrewsbury's defence, and he may be joined by more loan players before Thursday's deadline.

Simpson said "It is good to have one new face in the side, but we could do with not just one but a couple more."
