Sinnott: Vale fate is inevitable

Tue 25 Mar, 04:15 PM

Port Vale boss Lee Sinnott was brutally honest in his assessment of their victory over Gillingham and admitted that relegation is "inevitable".Marc Richards and Danny Whitaker gave Vale a two-goal lead before Leroy Griffiths got a late consolation for the free-falling Gills, who had earlier seen Simeon Jackson miss a penalty.

Sinnott said: "I don't think we deserved to win the game, but there have been other games this season when we have deserved something and ended up with nothing. That's football.

"We are not kidding ourselves and that sort of performance won't be good enough to bring us success next season. That is uppermost in my thoughts now because our fate this season is inevitable.

"The biggest plus was the performance of Joe Anyon. He's only 21 and plays in a specialist position and it has not been an easy season for him.

"His penalty save was terrific and he's also got us out of jail on several other occasions. He also commanded his area very well and was the difference between the two teams."
