Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has dismissed reports that Manchester City are interested in signing striker Diego Forlan.

The former Manchester United hitman, who struggled to make an impact during his time at Old Trafford, has flourished since quitting the Premier League for La Liga in 2004.

The 29-year-old netted 25 goals for Villarreal in his first season in the Spanish top flight, claiming the 'Pichichi' top scorer crown and sharing the European Golden Boot with Ruud van Nistelrooy.

He moved to Atleti in 2007 and managed to continue his rich vein of form for the capital club, netting 16 league goals in his first season at the Vicente Calderon.

So far this campaign he has found the target 19 times in just 23 league games, prompting reported interest from a number of top European clubs, including City.

But Cerezo has quashed the rumours linking the Uruaguay international with a move to Eastlands, citing the problems faced by fellow South American import Robinho as the main reason why Forlan will not be returning to the Premier League with City.

"I don't think Forlan is keen to go to Manchester City after seeing how Robinho is getting on there," Cerezo told Marca.

"They are rumours and more importantly no one has come to us to speak about the matter."

Despite glimpses of brilliance, Robinho has struggled for consistency since arriving in Manchester from Real Madrid following a £32.5 million deal at the beginning of the season.

  1. All they're trying to do is make fake reports and also make it look like City are failling to get interest in players - And the mad thing is the report says City have not even made a move for Forlan -which is good because he's not good enough.
