The US Department of Labor is suing jailed ex-NFL star Michael Vick, claiming he took money from a pension plan sponsored for his employees to pay his fines and legal bills.

The federal government also moved to prevent Vick, a former Atlanta Falcons quarterback currently serving a 23-month prison sentence on federal dog-fighting charges, from using his bankruptcy from discharging any debts owed to the plan, which covers employees of his marketing company, MV7.

The government accused Vick of making $1.35 million in unauthorized withdrawals from the plan between March 2007 and July 2008 to pay off penalties imposed after his conviction, and to pay his lawyers.

Vick, 28, filed for personal bankruptcy protection in July 2008 and has lost an estimated $100 million in salary and endorsements.
