Defender to miss Cherries trip

Fri 25 Apr, 12:15 PM

Crewe first-team coach Steve Holland has no new injuries to report as his side bid to seal their survival at fellow strugglers Bournemouth. The Railwaymen will be without full-back Patrick Boyle, who has returned to parent club Everton, meaning Holland must decide whether to hand a recall to one of fit-again pair Billy Jones and Danny Woodards or use the versatile George Abbey.

Woodards returns to the squad after missing the last two games with an ankle problem, while Jones played 75 minutes for the reserves against Macclesfield in midweek after four months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

He was joined in that side by club captain Neil Cox, who could return this weekend after a shoulder injury, while midfielder Michael O'Connor is back in training following a groin injury.

Steve Jones was a 90th-minute substitute in last week's 3-1 win over Cheltenham after overcoming a back problem and the on-loan Burnley striker could be given a more prominent role against the Cherries.

But Alex are certain to be without reserve goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson (knee) and Ben Rix (hip) who remain long-term absentees.
