Chievo promoted back to Serie A

Sun 25 May, 07:00 PM

Chievo have been promoted to Serie A, thanks to a 1-1 draw at Grosseto on Sunday - and Bologna look well placed to join them.A point was sufficient to ensure the Verona-based team bounced straight back up after being relegated to Serie B last season, having started the campaign in the Champions League qualifiers.

Chievo are now four points ahead of third-placed Lecce with one game to go.

"It has been a great ride," said coach Giuseppe Iachini. "And we achieved it thanks to a great deal of hard work.

"I am happy for the club, for the players and for the fans who have always been close to us.

"It hasn't been easy, we needed lots of sacrifices.

"We have reached Serie A thanks to good football, after having got rid of all the disappointments of relegation.

"Will I leave Chievo? I have an agreement with the club to stay. Soon we will sit down at the table and talk about the future."

Bologna, who are only a point behind Chievo and could still win Serie B, will now battle it out with Lecce for the last remaining automatic promotion place.

The other will have to settle for the play-offs along with Albinoleffe, Pisa and Brescia.
