Leeds boast biggest support

Mon 25 May, 04:06 PM

Leeds fans have been officially named as the most well travelled in League One - averaging an average away support of 2,523 for the 2008/2009 season.

Only Coca-Cola Championship winners Wolves could boast a higher average travelling contingent in the Football League with 2,808 while Leicester were the only other League One outfit to break the 2,000 mark.

The Whites` biggest following came at Peterborough in October when 4,177 fans travelled to London Road.

  1. Yep your right there marcharrison1979, but its proberly gravel anyway anybody else have a good laugh at the red @#$% last night ''are you Leeds in disguise'' was heard in the pub last night by a very happy liverpool fan

  2. Thank you, Alan - you're very sweet, but why do you not want me to contribute anything on the Leeds forum? Is this another "anti-woman" thing? Still, its a change from the usual "shouldn't you be doing the cooking and ironing" jibes that you blokes normally fire at me! Don't Leeds have any female supporters? I went to Elland Road a few years ago to see Leeds play Man Utd. - it was a great game (Leeds won 1-0, Harry Kewell scored, and I had a seat almost directly behind the Leeds dug-out) Terry Venables signed my programme and gave me a lovely smile - he was gorgeous! I don't remember HIM saying "Sorry, love - this is a football ground - no place for a woman"......

  4. marcharrison1979 - I'm sorry, I may have been a little misunderstood here. There is NOTHING wrong at all in being in League 1, just as I hope there is nothing wrong with being a female who happens to have an interest in football? I was merely trying to make the point that it just shows how far your club have slipped if the best thing you can crow about is being the "best supported away team in League 1". It's a bit like being voted the team "with the brightest coloured boots" or similar.

It just makes me laugh when all the Leeds "supporters" think that taking 2500 supporters to an away game somehow means that the TEAM is really good, or that these "supporters" are in some way better than the supporters of other teams in League 1 who don't have the huge population that Leeds have to draw on. Where else do you go anywhere in Yorkshire if you want to see top-flight football? The best teams in Yorkshire (statistically) are Sheffield Utd., Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers. And although they are higher up the tree than Leeds, even THEY are not Premiership sides.

Nothing wrong with League 1 - just glad that at least ONE of you is able to stop living in the past and accept that Leeds are not "out of place" in that league. Why would I have "sour grapes", and no, I do not have "sand up my fanny", as you so eloquently put it. I take it you are still a schoolboy - about 14 years old, right?

  5. no we are the best supported club in europe. and they all know it, thats why they come on our pages so often. green.green.green......

  6. What's so bad about League One Mary? you make it sound like it's shamful to be part of it. Well i'm sorry ifyou feel that way you football snob. I'm proud to be a leeds fan, us the geordies and the bouys are the best fans in the country, fact! we're proud of our team and who we are no matter where we're playing, through rain or through snow we are the true yorkshire republican army. Sounds like you've got sour grapes, or sand up your fanny. :D

  7. Well what a shock a woman with a lot to say (and if Mary aint a woman he prbably wants to be). We have done great in every div we have played in and have a great bunch of fans who have followed them through the 'ups and downs' unlike a few teams I can mention whos fans only sing when the're winning. We are Leeds and we are proud of it not a bunch of part time supporters who come out of the woodwork when things are going well or cry and throw our toys out of the pram when we dont get our own way......MOT

  8. I'm really not sure why the Leeds fans are brimming with pride at this announcement. If it means that much to you, I'll say "Congratulations", just as I offered my congratulations to Scunthorpe, who were PROMOTED from League One. But I'll bet that you Yorkies would have sooner been named as the WORST supported away team if it meant that YOU could have been promoted.

Come on, let's be honest - so what? Bully for you! Thanks for swelling the coffers of all the teams that you took your funny little "supporters" to. But please take this opportunity for a harsh reality check - just how far HAS your once proud team fallen if this is the biggest accolade that it can win these days? You had your few years of glory in the old 1st Division, but your time came and went and you've now found your real level again. Please stop deluding yourselves that you are in some way a "big" team - you have a decent ground and a decent following, but next year you will once AGAIN be playing in League 1. For goodness sake stop crowing about this rather meaningless statistic and start worrying about trying to get out of the third tier of the league. Remember - you are as near to the Blue Square league as you are the Premiership....

  9. Seem to remember that we beat Scunthorpe home and away this season, so what does that make you? Kn-b!

  11. Absolutely brilliant Leeds has a most incredible following yet were in the 3rd tear of english football i know its only a matter of time to go up to the championship but again how long again for the premiership and would we stay there now if Leeds could get a backer like Chelseas or Manchester Cities that would help but one thing for sure the support is there and for me and my daughter we are Leeds through and through andwere going to see the Whites win DIVISION 1 in the 2009/2010 season for sure we have a brilliant manager im sure of that 2 months earlier im sure we would have gone up this year Grayson has our support anyway and though im really skint im going to try to get our season tickets from MickyMoo of Seacroft LEEDS

From MICHAEL, on Tue 26 May 8:06AM
  12. would have been even bigger if we were allocated more tickets...most ground saw leeds fans elsewhere than the away end... lets point out too that the premiership away figure arnt included...bet we hadmore fans that most!!!!

  13. Oh well here we go again we have the big big big.....more more more then anyone else, shame you cant get out of the div.....which says all about your team...poor poor poor...

  14. should go back to the 70's and 80's when we could just turn up and pay at the turnstills. that number would be double if not triple

  15. It's looks a poor away following but thats all we were allocated or it would of been far more!
