Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano is hoping for an Anfield reunion with his friend Carlos Tevez.
The Argentina captain and his international team-mate were briefly at West Ham together when they arrived in the Premier League in August 2006.
But now midfielder Mascherano, who joined Liverpool in January 2007, is aware of the speculation that he could be re-united with his striking colleague at Anfield. Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has been linked with a move for Tevez, whose loan deal at Manchester United ends next month.
Benitez pointedly refused to discuss names of his transfer targets after Liverpool's final game of the season on Sunday when they beat Spurs 3-1 to clinch runners-up spot. But there is little United boss Sir Alex Ferguson could do about such a move once the player's loan is over.
Mascherano said: "It would be great to have Carlos here with me, I know how good he is. But I don't really know what the situation is, it is certainly a difficult one.
"I don't know exactly what is happening. The only thing I can say is that he is a great player and a great person."

Can't see anelka back at Anfield, he's a player who would take a lot of man management and that isn't Rafas style, besides Chelsea wouldn't sell him anyway. Would like to see another decent striker arrive this summer, reckon that we're gonna need one to have a chance at the league next season.

No problem with Tevez being at Liverpool next season, if it helped us win the league I don't care who he played for before joining. However not at the expense of selling Alonso, if that's were the money would have to come from. We need a decent right back, Arbeloa was caught out to many time this year and he's not a good crosser of the ball. We probably could do with a pacey right sided midfielder as well other than that, the majority of the team is fine.
He is one powerfull player with a lot going for him with the right team... have no idea why Alex didnt snap him up? Unless his not happy and wants to play for another team???

The only positive facts of note for you guys are that Torres was a terrific signing ... Gerrard is a good solid midfielder with a cracking shot (even if he's in the top 3 EPL divers behind Drogba but ahead of Ronaldo) ... and it's clear from Benitez's shape just who ate all the paella

I think Rooney, Tevez and Kuyt are very similar players... I think that's why SAF decided that Rooney and Tevez should not player together on a team regularly. If LFC is going to take Tevez, Kuyt should feel threatened. I like Kuyt. It did a fantastic job for us this year.
I think Valencia duo of Villa and Silva are better options... Valencia are is lots of debt problem and they fail to get into the top-4 which means no Champions League action... They will sell!
